Along the way we saw where Mozart lived, where a scene from the sound of music was shot and spent some more time at the Christmas market.
The main thing we did though was visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress.
The fortress is on top of a hill overlooking the city. At one point in our visit we did an audio tour that took us to a viewing platform on top of the castle and gave us an incredibly 360 degree view over all of Salzburg and to the mountains. We also saw state rooms, a torture chamber, a marionette museum and a chapel, among other things. Also, if you go at the right time of day/year there is another Christmas market in the fortress. Unfortunately it wasn't open for us. In general the whole place was great to see.
When we got back to the hostel in the evening we watched The Sound of Music (it plays here every night) so Chad would understand what we are seeing when we do the official tour tomorrow morning. Of course now that I have watched it I can't stop singing all the songs to myself. And occasionally out loud...
*how do you solve a problem like Maria, how do you catch a cloud and pin it down?* *I am 16 going on 17 (pretend to prance around a gazebo)* *Edelweiss, Edelweiss *
Oh come on, you know you love those songs too!!
Before we go on the tour we have to check out and lock out bags up, and then after the tour finishes we have a little more time to kill before getting on our train.
Until then,
xoxo
