Cosplaying again!

With my third comic convention coming up quickly it's time to get on with making my next costumes. There are so many I want to make but I can't decide which to do this time. I'm thinking that I will make 2-3 this time if I can. It's a 4 day convention and wearing the same thing in a busy, hot, crowded hall for 4 days seems pretty nasty..

Choices!

Gender bend Arrow. When I say gender bend, I mean taking a male character and altering their costume to make a "what if this person was a girl" costume.

Sakizou art. This would be extremely difficult and time consuming, especially considering this is just 1 image. No video to watch or picture from another angle, just this. (And many other AWESOME pieces could choose!) Maybe for a future con would be better.

Wizard of O,z Dorothy. One of my favorite movies and characters. Plus my best friend would make the perfect Alice (blond hair, loves cats, kinda bananas) and if you think about it, Dorothy and Alice would have made the best of friends if they came from the same worlds.

Padme from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. It's one of my favorite costumes she wears, but she is pregnant when she wears it so this one will probably have to wait as well..

It's been ages since I've played the game and I probably wasn't very good when I played it anyway, but I would just love to make a Ratchet and Clank cosplay. Again, it is a male character, and not even human, but it have a fun idea for it. I also really like that it's really unlikely anyone else would be wearing anything similar.

Ahsoka tano. She's just cool. That's pretty much all there is to it. But considering she is tiny and involves lots of body paint....... Maybe later?

Another of my favorite movies, The mummy. You know that scene where Evelyn fights Anck-su-namun in her flashback/past life memory? That outfit. Too naked?

Of all the cool ass kicking woman I could play dress up as, Lara Croft is right up there at the top. Her new look in the newest Tomb Raider game is pretty awesome.

LILO and stitch. Simply put, I love them. That is all. And to be clear, I would (probably) be LILO and carry around a stitch doll. Though, being stitch and carrying a stuffed LILO could be good too...

Now, my top 2 choices at the moment and the costumes I am leaning closest to are Tauriel from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and an original, made in my head warrior Medusa-ish thing. I'm really not sure where the idea for the latter came from, but I like it. A lot.

PLEASE, weigh in! I need opinions. And suggestions of other things I could do! And be open-minded, wigs and makeup are part of costumes.

The time has come

The time has finally come!
I decided that 2014 would be the year I finally get my drivers license and that's exactly what I plan to do.
Where I live, people can get a learners license when they are 14 and a full license at 16. I waited until I was 17/18 to get my learners and I've driven very little since then. Now that I'm 22 it's long past time I get it done. I want to go where I want, when I want.
This weekend I'll be taking drivers training, in a class likely filled with 15 year olds... I'm going to pretend I'm not super awkward about that, I will get 100%, I will practise driving and I will get my license.

By March 31, 2014 I will have my license. You people are now keeping me accountable to that.
Wish me luck!

Oh the places you'll go

You know how much I like to talk about travel, so I'm going to do just that.

I have a pretty huge list of places to go at some point in my life. Preferably sooner than later. I don't think I'll ever be totally satisfied even if I see all these places. Maybe once I've been everywhere?? Maybe...

The very first places I ever wanted to go were Hawaii and Egypt. My Hawaiian dreams started in grade 6 when I first saw LILO and STITCH! One of my most favorite movies. The best dreams start off innocently, but this one never went away. To this day, I desire a Hawaiian adventure. Climbing volcano's, learning to scuba dive (another serious dream,) explore the forests... I'm a huge lover of water and Hawaii seems like a good place to spend a lot of time in it.

Egypt on the other hand, is somewhere I've always wanted to go but I don't know where the desire came from. If you have been here reading my blog since the beginning you may remember how excited I was to see real mummies in a few places through my travels in Europe. Honestly, I was seriously considering a trip to Egypt while I was in Greece... Unfortunately for me, it isn't the safest place to travel to right now, especially as a solo woman, so it has to wait. One day I will see it! Mummies, pyramids, The Sphinx..

My most recent and current obsession is Iceland. If you've ever seen a picture, a video or are lucky enough to have been there, you will know how stunning it is. Stunning, unique, natural.. From the research I've done on this country I can't see any reason that people should pass it up. I think it will be unique to the rest of the world. Also, 90-some percent of Icelandic people genuinely believe in elves... I'm all for that. Plus(!!!) they have the Blue Lagoon and unreal northern lights.

Australia and New Zealand. I'm putting them together because I plan to make them one big trip eventually. My love for New Zealand started with Lord of the Rings and has grown from there. Both of these places seem so beautiful and different than what I see here at home. A new experience is always good. I'd be lying if I didn't mention how much I love the accents, it's honestly a big draw! Be real, you love that accent too!! Other than the LotR's sets in New Zealand I don't have any specific places I must see, just the countries in general. Ok, ok. And the Great Barrier Reef..

There is plenty more, but that's for another day.

Thank you!!

It's been 17 months and 231 posts now. My little blog has and continues to be viewed by people all over the world. Those people have viewed it over 10,000 times! I've brought you across Europe, into my home, around my kitchen, to my job. I showed you what I eat, what I enjoy doing and my goals.

I didn't know I could write. I didn't know people would enjoy what I had to say.

I do know some things now though. I love to write. Sometimes when I can't talk I type. I really love everything about this place.

Thank you so much for being here with me!

This year

Every day should be lived to its fullest and every morning is a chance to start over, but that doesn't mean a new year isn't a good time to start over if you haven't already. Or maybe, you aren't starting over at all but rather improving, going farther, or making new plans.

I figured It really couldn't hurt to make myself a bit of a list to achieve. Maybe this year, maybe this month, perhaps before I'm 30..
Here it is:

I want to de-clutter. My home, my life.. I think sometimes I'm entirely to materialistic. Things are just that, things. If it can be replaced or lived without, it can't be THAT important, can it? Those little irreplaceable things, the photos, the objects that hold memories and love, that's worth keeping around. Everything is entertainment or space filler. That's not necessarily bad, entertainment is good sometimes but it also takes up so much space!

I've been wanting to take a photography class for quite a long time now and I think the time has come. I love taking pictures but I would love to get better at taking them. I want images that draw feeling.
Somewhat along the same lines, I want to do more of the creative things I love. Painting is a big one. I don't think I'm great, but I just love to do it anyway. I'm also a big fan of crocheting. I've made quite a few things, all simple, and now I think it's time to learn something for complicated.
Lastly in the creative field, I have fallen so in love with making costumes. I plan to make several more this year and I hope every one can be better than the last.

Another big thing is travel. Obviously. There are so many places I want to go. Everywhere really. I can't see how anyone could want to stay in one place forever, the world is such an amazing place.  I've already been planning for my next trip!
Travel doesn't come cheap though so saving $$$ is another must.
Not just to see the world though, as much as I don't like it, the world runs on money and we all need it.  I would love to pay off the money I owe and get ahead as soon as possible.

Considering I'm 22 I would have to say its long past time that I got my drivers license. I've always been content without it. I can usually get rides if I need them or take the (useless) city buses to get where I need, but I don't like it anymore. I want to go where I want, when I want and I don't want it to be a hassle. Having to leave an hour before I work because that's the only bus sucks, it's a 5 minute drive!!!

Moving along to my last goal, and it's a big one. Health. By no means am I super unhealthy or obese or overly lazy, but I can certainly improve myself. I want to keep up with my nieces without being tired, I want to run daily because I enjoy it and because I can, I want to be flexible, fit and strong. Eat well. Ditch the crap. General overall healthy lifestyle.

And that's all. For now.

Out of the nest's year in review; 2013

I did so much in 2013. I went places, saw things, learned and found some new things I love. Spent time with my family and friends, started to focus on my health and accepted that failure just means another chance to try harder.

I started the year off in Copenhagen, Denmark with a fireworks show, massive crowds and a huge love of life. In the middle of my travel adventure I couldn't have been happier. Within January I also visited Belgium, France, England, Scotland and The Netherlands.

Once home I got readjusted to life here and started looking for the next thing for me.
I got a new job and spent my spare time searching for my first apartment.

Chad and I found a place we love and moved in. I'm still working on it, adjusting little things, gathering furniture and trying to create "home."

I picked up running again and did Color Me Rad 5K

I discovered my new love of cosplay and comic cons. I made 2 costumes and am excited to make more.

Over the summer Chad and I celebrated 5 years together and Visited Drumheller and Calgary. I went to Regina to celebrate my grandparents 50th anniversary and spent a day in Jasper with some of my family.

I got to meet my second niece finally and I'm so in love with her. Being an auntie is the greatest! And being an auntie to 2 perfect little girls is even better!!

I've started to look forward to another trip that will hopefully happen summer 2014. You will just have to wait to hear more on that one though!

In October I overcame a personal obstacle and celebrated my 22nd birthday!

December brought what it always does. Craziness and family time. Christmas. Shopping. Over indulging. And a first for me, spending the holiday with one of the nieces. I love that I get to be a kid again when I'm with her. We even pulled out my Barbie's!

And while we are still here, I should mention, this blog has 95 posts for 2013! I truly hope you have enjoyed reading them. I can't wait for what this next year has in store, here's hoping it's amazing!
Happy New Year!!
