My first time in Canmore!

Over our long weekend Ryan and I took a little trip to Canmore for some mountain adventures. As far as I can remember I’ve never been to Canmore, not any more than driving through it anyway. That being said it seemed like the perfect place to go to experience something new.

In some ways it is just like Banff or Jasper, but it's also different.

Banff is very tourist heavy. They come in hoards from all over the world and everything is always busy.

Jasper is much calmer and people seem a lot more focused on hiking, skiing/snowboarding and other outdoor activities.

Canmore, as far as I could tell, is more of a resort town. There are hotels/lodges/resorts everywhere, downtown is all cute shops and varied restaurants and everywhere seems very busy. However, just a short walk down the street is the start of a beautiful walking trail.

On our first afternoon when we arrived in town it was too early to check into our hotel so we went for lunch and then for a walk around.  We went in and out of plenty of tiny shops, considered places we might like to eat next and I spied a juice bar that I committed to memory for tomorrows breakfast. I possibly also found a pair of leggings that I’ve wanted for so long and they may have been 50% off making them too good to resist..

By 4:30 we were ready for a bit of relaxation and decided we should get checked into our hotel room.

Wind Tower Lodge & Suites had a room “on sale” when I was looking into what we would book so I scooped it up. For a very reasonable price we got a pretty awesome suite.

We had a full kitchen, in-suite laundry, living room with fire place, separate king-size bedroom and a private patio. The patio came with bunnies too….

Unable to resist the draw of the big soft bed we took a little vacation nap. It also prepared us for walking around again that evening.

We found all the wildlife along the first bit of our walk. Bunnies everywhere!!

So many bunnies!

We walked around town a bit more and considered again if we might want to eat and where. We didn’t end up eating but we did find a nice walking path just off Main Street across from the giant head.

We started on a boardwalk through what must be a creek in the summer but was mostly dry at the time. It was quiet and peaceful without many other people around and we really enjoyed it. Any direction you look there are mountain views and that is great for me. One day when I  move to the sea I’ll really miss these mountains..

The boardwalk ends, a bridge is crossed and another walking path begins behind some really amazing looking condos. That path crosses another bridge and we were coincidentally led right up the street back to our hotel. A perfect little loop.

At this point we were finally hungry again so we stopped in the hotel restaurant for some snacks followed by relaxing in front of our fire place in the room before bed.
